Pat Saward
Manager. A wing-half or inside-forward who played as an amateur for Crystal Palace before enjoying a professional career with Millwall, Aston Villa and Huddersfield. After a spell on the Coventry coaching staff under Jimmy Hill, Saward became Albion boss in the summer of 1970. After being second from bottom in mid-February 1971, Saward guided the club to a final position of 14th. An all-out attacking game brought rich rewards with promotion from Division Three in 1971/72. Saward was sacked in October 1973.

Brian Powney
Goalkeeper. Born Seaford, Sussex. At the age of 26 he is Albion's longest serving player. Joined the club direct from school in Seaford, Sussex, during September 1961. Played for East Sussex Schoolboys. Last season, he was granted a testimonial.

Alan Dovey
Goalkeeper. Born Stepney, London. Signed for Chelsea as an apprentice in October 1969. Came to Brighton on loan as cover for Brian Powney in March 1971, before signing permanently in July 1971 in a £1,000 deal. Played two games in each of the 1970/71 and 1971/72 seasons. Retired from the professional game at the end of the 1972/73 season to pursue a career in insurance.

Stuart Henderson
Defender. Born Bridge of Allan, Scotland. A Scot who played for Stirling Schoolboys and won three Scottish Schoolboy caps at right-back. He joined Albion from Chelsea at the end of October 1965, and last season made 40 first team appearances.

Eddie Spearritt
Defender. Born Lowestoft. Joined Albion at the end of January, 1969, from Ipswich Town as a forward but successfully switched to full back last season. His first club was Arsenal, but after six months at Highbury returned to Ipswich and spent five and a half years with Ipswich Town.

John Napier
Defender. Born Lurgan. A full Irish international, John joined the Albion from Bolton Wanderers in August 1967. Besides winning a full cap, he also has Under-23, Youth and Schoolboy caps for Northern Ireland. John is the Albion captain.

Norman Gall
Defender. Born Wallsend. Albion's second longest-serving player. He joined them in March 1962 from Gateshead. Played for Wallsend Boys and Corinthians Youth team before going to Gateshead. He has made made more first-team appearances than any other on Albion books. Last season, was voted Albion's 'Player of the Year'.

Ian Goodwin
Defender. Born Irlam, Lancashire. Ian represented Lancashire and Stretford Boys. Joined Oldham at 15 as an apprentice but left after a year. At 17, his ability was noted by Coventry City for whom he soon signed as a professional, subsequently making 10 First Division appearances. Early last season he went to Albion on an exlended loan before joining the club permanently in March 1971.

John Templeman
Midfielder. Born Yapton, Sussex. Captain of his school team at Westergate, Chichester, he joined Portsmouth Juniors. After two seasons with Pompey he went to Brighton in July 1966.

Bert Murray
Right-back, Midfield and Winger. Born London. Bert joined Chelsea straight from school after gaining many County and International honours. More England selections came Bert's wayat Youth and Under-23 levels before he joined Birmingham City in 1966. Bert quite often switched to full-back at St Andrew's. Initially went to Albion on loan in March 1971 before being transferred permanently just before the deadline.

Dave Turner
Midfield. Another player to join Albion from Newcastle United. As a boy he played for Nottinghamshire Schools and had two trials for England Boys. Joined Newcastle direct from school, moving down south to Brighton in December 1963.

Peter O'Sullivan
Winger. Joined Albion from Manchester United on a free transfer towards the end of 1969/70. Signed for United straight from school after gaining three Welsh Schoolboy caps and scoring in every game. Gained Wales Under-23 honours last season against Scotland.

Alan Duffy
Forward. Joined Brighton in January 1970 from Newcastle United for a five-figure fee, having graduated through the St James' Park junior and reserve sides since leaving school. Represented England Youth against France three years later.

Willie Irvine
Forward. Born Antrim, Northern Ireland. Signed for the Albion in July 1971 and now becomes the fourth player to join the club permanently after a loan period last season. Willie had a distinguished career at Burnley when he joined them straight from school before being transferred to Preston North End in 1968. Willie has 21 full caps with Northern Ireland.

Born Dumblane, Scotland. Joined Albion from Newcastle United after service with preston, Blackpool and Workington. During 1967/68, he broke Albion's post-war scoring record with 30 goals.
